The experience

Of the beautiful places you will visit in Basilicata, you cannot miss Savoia di Lucania, a small village surrounded by mountains overlooking the Melandro valley in the province of Potenza.

The name of the village changed in 1879, from Salvia to Savoia di Lucania to demonstrate the village’s loyalty to the House of Savoy, after the attempt made in 1878 by the Salvian anarchist Giovanni Passanante against King Umberto I, son of Victor Emmanuel II.

You will also learn about this gruesome and sad affair through the stories of local people and much more about the history of this town, its beauty, culture and traditions, with particular reference to the sage that grows abundantly and spontaneously in the surrounding countryside.

To enrich your trip to this fascinating village, you can ask the local associations to participate in a workshop organised precisely to explain how and where this plant is cultivated and what its characteristics are. You will be inebriated by its scent, it will be interesting to discover its medicinal properties, its wide use in many typical dishes and why it would be important to always have some in your home.

You will realise that you have had a truly exciting experience, enriched by the charm that every place of your roots can give you!
