{"id":30189,"date":"2026-04-20T12:36:58","date_gmt":"2026-04-20T10:36:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/italea.com\/news\/roots-tourism-to-the-rhythm-of-rap-the-students-of-ornavasso-celebrate-italian-emigrant-giorgina-reid\/"},"modified":"2026-04-20T12:36:58","modified_gmt":"2026-04-20T10:36:58","slug":"roots-tourism-to-the-rhythm-of-rap-the-students-of-ornavasso-celebrate-italian-emigrant-giorgina-reid","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/italea.com\/en\/news\/roots-tourism-to-the-rhythm-of-rap-the-students-of-ornavasso-celebrate-italian-emigrant-giorgina-reid\/","title":{"rendered":"Roots Tourism to the Rhythm of Rap: The Students of Ornavasso Celebrate Italian Emigrant Giorgina Reid"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-path-to-node=\"3\"><b data-path-to-node=\"3\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">For the &#8220;Mondo in valigia&#8221; contest, born from the collaboration between Italea Piemonte and the Giovan Pietro Vanni Association, Piedmontese students tell the story of the extraordinary undertaking of a tenacious woman from Trieste in the United States through music.<\/b><\/p>\n<p id=\"p-rc_c9997f79337a8912-41\" data-path-to-node=\"4\"><span data-path-to-node=\"4,0\">The discovery of one&#8217;s roots and the stories of Italians around the world also passes through the creativity and energy of new generations. <\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"4,2\"><span class=\"citation-92\">This is demonstrated by the brilliant project created by the third-year class of the lower secondary school of Ornavasso<\/span><\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"4,4\">, an institute belonging to the I.C. <\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"4,6\"><span class=\"citation-91\">Valtoce of Vogogna (VB)<\/span><\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"4,8\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"source-inline-chip-container ng-star-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p id=\"p-rc_c9997f79337a8912-42\" data-path-to-node=\"5\"><span data-path-to-node=\"5,1\"><span class=\"citation-90\">Guided by their teacher, Prof. Vanessa Sirtori <\/span><\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"5,4\"><span class=\"citation-89\">, the students enthusiastically participated in the &#8220;Mondo in valigia&#8221; (World in a Suitcase) contest<\/span><\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"5,6\">. This contest, now in its second edition and this year specifically focused on the enhancement of female figures, was made possible thanks to the fruitful collaboration between <b data-path-to-node=\"5,6\" data-index-in-node=\"178\">Italea Piemonte<\/b> and the <b data-path-to-node=\"5,6\" data-index-in-node=\"202\">Giovan Pietro Vanni Association, with the support of the Kiwanis Club of Domodossola.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"p-rc_c9997f79337a8912-43\" data-path-to-node=\"6\"><span data-path-to-node=\"6,1\"><span class=\"citation-88\">To participate, the students conceived and produced an original audio-visual project<\/span><\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"6,3\">. <\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"6,5\"><span class=\"citation-87\">The kids took inspiration from the story of a woman from Trieste (<strong>Giorgina Reid<\/strong>) who emigrated to the United States and, through her commitment, managed to save the Montauk Lighthouse, an American historical monument, from erosion.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"p-rc_c9997f79337a8912-44\" data-path-to-node=\"7\"><span data-path-to-node=\"7,1\"><span class=\"citation-86\">Instead of a traditional narrative, the students chose a language close to them: to tell her story, they created a rap song! <\/span><\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"7,3\"> Through driving rhymes and hand-drawn illustrations, the video traces the life of this Italian pioneer, celebrating her determination and the positive impact she left in her adopted homeland.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"8\">Initiatives like this perfectly align with the mission of <b data-path-to-node=\"8\" data-index-in-node=\"58\">Italea<\/b>, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) program dedicated to Roots Tourism.
