The Archivio Diaristico Nazionale Foundation was established in 1991 in Pieve Santo Stefano, on the initiative of the municipality and the journalist and writer Saverio Tutino, who had already founded the Archive in 1984 as a “home for the stories of ordinary people.”
On the shelves of the Archive, more than 10,600 unpublished autobiographical testimonies are preserved — diaries, letters, memoirs, and autobiographies that span centuries of everyday life, wars, migrations, and social changes.
Inaugurated in 2013 and designed by the studio Dotdotdot, the Piccolo Museo del Diario is an immersive and interactive journey that transforms the visit into a sensory experience.
Every September, Pieve Santo Stefano becomes the “City of the Diary” with the Saverio Tutino Pieve Award, which celebrates the best unpublished autobiographical writings.
Since 2012, the Foundation has promoted the DiMMi – Multimedial Migrant Diaries project, dedicated to collecting the life stories of migrants in Italy.
