Montemitro
About 1 hour away, our tour takes us to Montemitro. A meeting point between sea and mountains, it is part of a series of five villages inhabited by Slavic descendants. Destroyed following a catastrophic earthquake, the village was repopulated by colonies of Slavic refugees fleeing the 15th-century Turkish occupation. The geographical lay of the land made it an insulator, to such an extent that language, customs and traditions are preserved to this day.
The Land of Poetry
As you stroll through the up and down of the narrow country lanes, you can hear the sound of an ancient idiom, the result of a fusion of Slavic and Molise dialects. An idiom to this day that is nationally protected, spoken by some local residents and remains carved into the signs and poems that, like fragrant ivy, adorn the walls, doorways and benches scattered along the entire hamlet. Local young people, passionate about their roots, will accompany you to discover mystical places, making you relive the emotions of a people on a journey, just like your ancestors.
Tasting of Oils
Surrounded by a charming and welcoming atmosphere, the tour continues with an opportunity to delight the palate with extraordinary flavors. Surrounded by greenery and seated in a setting that tells the story of history and tradition, enjoy a unique culinary experience: an experiential lunch with tasting of local oils. Our tour ends with a leap back in time: lace-making, a very old tradition that connects the two sides of the sea. In the historic location of Montemitro’s Literary Cafe, the expert hands of knowledgeable masters will guide you through the secrets of lace-making, explaining the intricacies Of this ancient craft. The gentle sound of lace-making creates a soothing background; pillows and finely crafted needles become the tools of an art passed down from generation to generation. At the end of the experience, take with you a precious memento of your journey into the Molise heartland. A handmade lace bracelet to accompany you on your return journey.
Our tour ends in the late afternoon (19:00) with a return to Termoli. How about an aperitif by the sea?
